The Fallout star shared his account on the movie-logging social media platform on Wednesday, revealing top-10 movie lists for Sex and the City's Trey MacDougal, Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper, Desperate Housewives' Orson Hodge, and How I Met Your Mother's the Captain. So yes, no Elm Street movie has been officially announced to be in the works, but there is active enthusiasm from both the fans and the rightsholders for another film in the franchise. If another Nightmare on Elm Street were to be made, several cast members from across the film franchise have said they would be up for a return. At the time, Flanagan, who is best known for his Netflix Stephen King adaptations, posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "Put me in, coach... I’ve got a pitch!" Nothing further has come of Flanagan throwing his hat in the Elm Street ring. In 2015, it was reported a remake of the original Wes Craven-directed film was in the works at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinemas (via The Wrap).

Lifestyle

Jessica Rothe remains hopeful for Happy Death Day 3, says it’s just a matter of Blumhouse and Universal signing off. Though it might look like an old English castle, it comes decked out with modern amenities like a gym, spa, sauna, steam, wine cellar, and an outdoor pool. The four-story estate is being used as an event venue for corporate events, meetings and team buildings, weddings, parties, and so on. We don’t want to give too much away, in case you haven’t seen the series yet — if that’s the case, stop reading right now for crying out loud and go binge-watch some Netflix. What truly happened that night is only explained at the end of the series, when the kids, now adults, return to Hill House with their father to finally learn the truth.

King Me: The Stephen King Movie Podcast, Officially

The Haunting is a 1963 British horror film directed and produced by Robert Wise, adapted by Nelson Gidding from Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House. The film depicts the experiences of a small group of people invited by a paranormal investigator to investigate a purportedly haunted house. The Robert Wise original is better, the book is MUCH better, and the Mike Flanagan 10 episode take on the material is honestly the best interpretation of it period. I really wanted to have a change of tune on this movie as it’s been over 20 years since I saw it. It wasn’t a flop at all with it making over 100 million, but the reviews were middling then and I’d say middling at best now. It’s not good enough to be, well, good, and not bad enough to fall under our awfully good banner.

Robert Wise (1914-

Nell later reveals to the group that she is related to Carolyn Crain and must help the children "move on" to the afterlife. In the summer of 1992, Hugh and Olivia Crain and their five children—Steven, Shirley, Theodora (Theo), Luke, and Eleanor (Nell)—move into Hill House to renovate the mansion in order to sell it and build their own house, designed by Olivia. However, due to unexpected repairs, they have to stay longer, and they begin to experience increasing paranormal phenomena, resulting in a tragic loss and the family fleeing from the house. Twenty-six years later, the Crain siblings and their estranged father reunite after another tragedy strikes them, and they are forced to confront how their time in Hill House has affected each of them. Barring possible disappointment at the feelings-over-fear resolution, though, audiences are likely to go nuts for this edge-of-your-couch nightmare, and Netflix has questionably turned limited series into ongoing dramas before. It wouldn’t surprise me if this closed story opens up again as Once More Back to Hill House or a prequel featuring Annabeth Gish’s stern caretaker.

The Haunting ( – The Test of Time

Basically, the house has a strange grip on each of the members of the Crain family, and many years later it manages to lure them back, one by one, for reasons that are only revealed in the final episode. The Crain family, which includes Hugh and Olivia and their children, Theo, Nell, Shirley, Luke, and Steven, moves into Hill House as the parents have a passion for flipping houses. Another thing that the two seasons have in common is a central character in the form of a mansion that brings all the other characters together. Director Mike Flanagan is obviously taking cues from American Horror Story, which tends to re-cast the same actors in each season, much to our delight. And while we were anxiously waiting for the series to drop on Netflix, we thought we’d try to distract ourselves by taking a trip down memory lane and re-watching the first season. There are currently no plans for a third season of the horror anthology series The Haunting, but Flanagan would be ready for more under the right conditions.

There are few better examples of the form, and director Howard Hawks deserves much of the credit for insisting on relentlessly fast-paced patter—the movie was based on a popular, dialogue-heavy play that had already been filmed once as The Front Page. Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House is a frequently scary, surprisingly emotional saga focused on both past and present. Director Mike Flanagan takes Shirley Jackson's iconic haunted house novel and works into something wholly different, yet equally effective. Later in their stay, the doctor's wife, the haughty Mrs. Montague, and her companion Arthur Parker, the headmaster of a boys' school, arrive to spend a weekend at Hill House and help investigate it.

Behind the Camera-The Haunting

I remember printing many listed directions to get to where I needed to go and if you missed a turn, you were not given instant alternative directions. This doesn’t hold for Nell as she has fully bought in to her belief in ghosts, murdered children, and her relation to the house. They try to leave and take Nell with her but the house, and ghost of Crain fight back in a way that leaves two of the patients dead and the surviving two with little to explain the events they saw.

Hill House’s dark allure

What they don’t know is that the doctor who got them there is actually looking to get their responses to fear. Lots of supernatural events happen in the house and to the participant while Nell finds out that she is related to a matriarch of the property. In addition to that, she discovers that Crain, the owner of the house, used children as workers on his farm and mill and also tortured and killed many of the orphans that he was allegedly looking for homes for. The doctor admits what the study actually is and that he set up some of the spooky stuff for them to find. Development for The Haunting originally began as a collaboration between filmmaker Steven Spielberg and writer Stephen King, who together began writing a new adaptation of Jackson's novel, largely inspired by Wise's 1963 film version.

It is distractingly bad and how good everything else looks in the movie becomes a detriment when ghost Crain or ghost children try to come into the movie. Even the house itself attempting to rebel looks like a cartoon and not in a good way. While the story is interesting, the actual script and the deliveries and performances by the actors falls very flat. Some of the lines wouldn’t have worked regardless of who was delivering them but there are multiple times that the performances are worse than the written dialogue and even other times that the combo just makes everything worse.

Hugh and Olivia plan to renovate the crumbling mansion and then sell it to build their dream house, designed by Olivia herself. The others eventually come to believe Eleanor is the cause of the disturbances. Montague and Luke force her into her car; she bids them farewell and drives off, but before leaving the grounds of Hill House, she propels the car into a large oak tree to her implied death. The house's two caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, refuse to stay near the house at night. The four overnight visitors begin to form friendships as Montague explains the building's history, which encompasses suicide and other violent deaths.

That 12 line synopsis is obviously a very scrunched down version of a movie that is, in actuality, a bit longer than it needs to be. All four of the inhabitants begin to experience strange events while in the house, including unseen noises and ghosts roaming the halls at night, strange writing on the walls, and other unexplained events. Eleanor tends to experience phenomena to which the others are oblivious. At the same time, Eleanor may be losing touch with reality, and it is implied that at least some of what Eleanor witnesses may be products of her imagination.

Markway wishes to study the reported paranormal activity at Hill House and sends invitations for people to join his investigation; however, Mrs. Sannerson demands that Markway allow her heir Luke Sannerson to join. Only two other individuals accept—Theodora, a psychic, and Eleanor Lance, who experienced poltergeist activity as a child. Eleanor spent her adult life caring for her invalid mother, whose recent death has left Eleanor with severe guilt. This new Elm Street movie was planned to have Orphan scribe David Leslie-Johnson pen the script, with executives of the time Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter overseeing the title.

They, too, are interested in the supernatural, including séances and spirit writing. Unlike the other four characters, they do not experience anything supernatural, although some of Mrs. Montague's alleged spirit writings seem to communicate with Eleanor. A remake of the film was attempted in the early 1990s by horror author Stephen King. Persona deals with doubling, and Waitress evokes similar diner aesthetics to the series.
